What are the benefits of solid shampoos?
Solid shampoo has several advantages over liquid shampoo: it is more concentrated, contains no water, travels without leaking and does without a plastic bottle. Chosen well, it cleans as well as a liquid shampoo while lasting longer. Here is what you need to know before switching to solid shampoo.
Solid or liquid shampoo: what is the difference?
A liquid shampoo is mostly water. A solid shampoo contains the same families of cleansing and caring ingredients, but without that water. You add the water in the shower, by wetting the shampoo and your hair.
This difference in form changes a lot: the packaging, the weight to transport, how long it lasts and how you store it.
What are the benefits of solid shampoo?
1. Plastic-free packaging
Solid shampoos are packed in recycled cardboard. Liquid shampoos, on the other hand, are usually sold in single-use plastic bottles. Switching to solid means one less bottle to throw away every time you buy shampoo.
2. Water-free, so lighter to transport
Solid shampoos contain no water. So less unnecessary weight is transported, from where they are made to your home, which means less CO2 emitted during transport.
3. More concentrated, so more economical
Because it is not diluted, a solid shampoo is more concentrated than a liquid one. You need very little for each wash, and it lasts longer. Our 80 g solid shampoos give about 46 washes.
4. Handy for travel
A solid shampoo does not leak and does not need a watertight container. It slips easily into a toiletry bag or suitcase, which makes it ideal for travelling.
5. Ingredients of natural origin
Our solid shampoos are made from natural ingredients, with a gentle, plant-derived, sulfate-free surfactant. This makes them less harsh on hair and scalp.
How to choose the right solid shampoo
As with a liquid shampoo, the right solid shampoo depends on your scalp and your hair:
- Balanced scalp: a gentle shampoo for frequent use, such as our solid shampoo for normal hair.
- Roots that get greasy quickly: a purifying formula that helps regulate sebum.
- Dry hair or a tight-feeling scalp: a nourishing formula.
- Dandruff or hair loss: a targeted formula, and a dermatologist's opinion if the problem is significant or persistent.

How to make a solid shampoo last
A solid shampoo lasts longer if it dries well between uses:
- Do not leave it under the shower spray or in a puddle of water.
- Store it on a holder that lets water drain away, or fix it to the wall with a magnetic soap holder.
- When travelling, wait until it is dry before putting it in a closed tin.
