Hair diagnosis in Paris: what really happens in our Marais atelier

Diagnostic capillaire à Paris : ce qui se passe vraiment dans notre atelier du Marais

People rarely push open the door of a hair atelier for a diagnosis. They come for a product, the shampoo that will fix everything, the treatment a friend spoke highly of. And then they sit down, they see their scalp on a screen for the first time, and they realize they had been asking the wrong question all along.

THE SCALP, ALWAYS THE FORGOTTEN ONE

We look after our hair the way we tend a garden by looking only at the flowers. Yet everything happens in the soil. The scalp is the ground: it is where the fiber is born, where sebum is regulated, where most of the trouble we (wrongly) blame on our lengths actually sits. A hair is already the past. It dies the day it emerges. What is alive, what can change, is underneath. Having a diagnosis simply means you stop staring at the flowers and finally look at the soil.

WHAT WE LOOK AT (AND WHAT YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN)

In practice, we look at your scalp very closely, with a trichoscope: a small camera that magnifies the skin and the follicles. Things appear on the screen that no mirror ever shows: the density, the state of the openings the hairs come out of, whether sebum is present or not, redness, flaking, how fine the shafts are. We add a few questions: the rhythm of your life, what has changed recently, how long this has been bothering you. Nothing spectacular. Methodical observation, where we usually improvise.

WHY IT CHANGES EVERYTHING

Because you stop buying at random. Most of us collect products that do not match our scalp: a “dry hair” treatment on an oily scalp, a stripping anti-dandruff shampoo on what is simply sensitivity. We spend, we get annoyed, we start over. A diagnosis puts things back in order: it says what your scalp actually needs, and (often) what it does not need. Fewer products, better chosen.

WHAT YOU LEAVE WITH

Not a full bag, necessarily. An understanding, first: finally knowing what is going on up there, and why. Then a recommendation, adjusted to what we saw: a treatment, a gesture, a frequency. And candor: if what you need is not with us, we will tell you that too.

That is the difference between buying a shampoo and understanding your hair. The first can be found all over Paris. The second is what we do, at Homnès.

Want to see, at last, what is going on under your hair? Book an appointment for a diagnosis at the atelier, in the heart of the Marais. We turn on the trichoscope, and we look.
