How to prevent frizz?
· 3 min read
To prevent frizz, above all you need to hydrate your hair and smooth its cuticles: a gentle, nourishing shampoo, conditioner on the ends, a cold-water rinse and gentle drying. Here is why hair gets frizzy, plus our six tips for keeping your hair smooth and manageable, even in humid weather.
Why do we get frizz?
Frizz happens when hair is dehydrated. It looks for water at all costs: its cuticles lift to capture moisture from the air. That is why frizz is worse in humid weather, in the rain or in a steamy bathroom.
Several things make it worse:
- washing too often or with shampoos that strip too harshly, which dries out the fibre;
- damaged ends, which hold water poorly;
- friction: towels, vigorous brushing on wet hair, pillows;
- rinsing with very hot water, which leaves the cuticles open.
How to prevent frizz: our 6 tips
1. Rehydrate your hair with a nourishing shampoo
Our nourishing solid shampoo, made with glycerin, coconut oil and shea butter, deeply hydrates the hair fibre. Also try to space out your washes as much as possible: washing less often preserves the hair's natural moisture.
2. Care for your ends with a conditioner
Our solid conditioner, with avocado oil, shea and D-panthenol, smooths the hair cuticles and makes hair more supple. Apply it to the lengths and ends, where hair is driest.
3. Rinse with cold water
It is not very pleasant, especially in winter. But cold water helps tighten the cuticles, for softer, smoother hair. A final cool rinse of a few seconds is enough.
4. Dry with a microfibre towel
A regular bath towel soaks up all the water from your hair and, by rubbing, makes frizz worse. Opt for a microfibre towel instead: it speeds up drying and reduces frizz. Press your hair in the towel rather than rubbing it.
5. Detangle with a wide-tooth comb
On wet hair, use a wide-tooth comb. It detangles effectively with as few strokes as possible, which limits breakage and frizz. Start at the ends, then work up towards the roots.
6. Sleep on a satin pillowcase
Satin limits friction during the night, so your hair stays smooth and frizz-free even when you wake up. To go further, discover our night routine for smooth hair.
How to prevent frizz in humid weather
When it rains, the humidity in the air makes dehydrated hair swell. The best protection is still well-hydrated hair to begin with: nourishing shampoo, conditioner on the lengths and ends, gentle drying. Avoid touching your hair too often during the day, as this lifts the cuticles.
