How to maintain your color?
To care for your hair colour, above all you need to wash your hair gently, nourish it and protect it from heat: a gentle shampoo, conditioner on the ends, a regular nourishing mask and lukewarm water. Repeated colouring weakens hair considerably, and it needs specific care to keep the colour vibrant and stay healthy. Here is our guide.
Why does colouring damage hair?
Chemical colouring alters the hair fibre in order to fix the colour. With repetition, hair becomes more porous and drier: it loses its suppleness and shine, and the colour fades faster. The right care helps limit these effects and make the colour last.
Which shampoo for coloured hair?
Choose a gentle shampoo made with natural ingredients, such as mango butter, castor oil or argan oil, which nourish and protect hair while preserving the colour. Our solid shampoo for normal hair, with sidr, argan and D-panthenol, works very well on coloured hair.
Also try to space out your washes to keep the colour vibrant: no more than 2 or 3 a week.
Do you need conditioner after colouring?
Yes. Opt for a natural conditioner with shea butter and avocado oil, which deeply nourishes and hydrates hair. Our solid conditioner detangles, softens and adds shine without weighing hair down. Apply it to the lengths and ends only.
Which mask for coloured hair?
Coloured hair often needs extra hydration to stay shiny and supple. Use natural hair masks rich in nourishing ingredients, such as avocado, honey, argan oil or yoghurt. Apply them regularly, focusing on the ends, to revitalise hair and help the colour last longer.
The Homnès avocado and banana mask recipe
- In a bowl, mash or blend 1/2 a ripe avocado, 1 ripe banana and 1 tablespoon of full-fat crème fraîche, organic whole yoghurt, or almond or oat plant-based cream.
- Apply the lump-free mixture to washed, wet hair, from roots to ends.
- Leave on for 1 hour.
- Rinse with water as cool as possible.
- Repeat about once a week.

How to make your colour last longer
- Rinse with lukewarm water: hot water can make the colour bleed out faster.
- Space out your washes: 2 or 3 a week at most.
- Limit heat: hairdryer at a moderate temperature, curling irons and straighteners used sparingly.
- Protect your hair from pool chlorine, which can alter the colour. Our tips are in the effects of chlorine on your hair.
What about switching to plant-based hair colour?
Plant-based hair dyes are made from plant colouring agents. Chemical colours remove the hair's natural pigments. Plant-based colours, on the other hand, colour without penetrating the hair fibre: they coat the hair, protect it and do not alter its structure. This makes them gentler on hair and scalp. As with any hair colour, do a patch test before the first application.
In short
- Wash coloured hair with a gentle shampoo, 2 or 3 times a week at most.
- Apply conditioner to the lengths, and a nourishing mask every week.
- Rinse with lukewarm water and limit heat.
- Consider plant-based colour to preserve the fibre.
