Washing hair less often: miracle or mirage?

You've surely heard this phrase whispered on Instagram or between courses: “But stop washing your hair every two days and your scalp will self-regulate!”
It's a pretty promise, almost spiritual (the idea that our scalp has secret wisdom). Except… no.

Sebum, the unloved one we love to hate
Quick reminder: sebum is not a glitch in the matrix. It's a perfectly normal function. Produced by sebaceous glands, it protects, hydrates, lubricates. In short, it's your hair's personal bodyguard.

The problem? Its overproduction. Too zealous, this bodyguard becomes sticky: greasy roots, heavy, flat hair… and the urgent desire to hide it under a bun.

Spacing out washes: myth?
Contrary to what you read on obscure forums, spacing out shampoos does not “re-educate” your sebaceous glands. Those ladies do whatever they want. No serious study has shown that waiting two more days will convince them to retire early.
Worse: waiting too long is like offering a second home to sebum, dead cells, and dust. Result: itching, dandruff, sometimes hair loss (so glamorous it feels like a hair horror movie).

The real solution: gentleness
So what to do? Forget the military discipline of “one shampoo every five days or nothing.” The right strategy is gentle care. A non-aggressive shampoo, formulated for oily hair or sensitive scalps. Use it as often as needed (yes, even every two days if that's your rhythm). And stop, once and for all, feeling guilty.

Because deep down, the goal isn't to torture your roots to prove a point. The goal is to have hair that breathes, shines, and makes you want to shake it like a 90s commercial (neck movement included).

Moral of the story
Sebum is not your enemy. Guilt shouldn't be either. So wash your hair when YOU need to, choose your shampoo wisely (at Homnès, we know a couple that do the job 😉, with a special mention for our beloved sebo-regulating one)… and savor this simple pleasure: clean, light, and healthy shiny hair.

Your hair will thank you. And so will your selfies. ✨
